Every year on 11 March, the plumbing industry pauses to mark World Plumbing Day — a global recognition of the skilled professionals who keep our homes, businesses and communities running. Plumbers don’t often get the spotlight, but their work underpins some of the most fundamental pillars of public health: clean water, safe sanitation and a liveable environment. It’s easy to take a working tap or a functioning drain for granted. Skilled and licensed plumbers make sure we never have to think about it.
This year, PICAC marked the occasion with a week of activities across our campuses, building to the standout event on the calendar: the World Plumbing Day Apprentice Skills Contest, held at PICAC Brunswick on Friday 13 March 2026.
The Apprentice Skills Contest brought together some of the most talented plumbing and sprinkler fitting apprentices from New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, all competing for the chance to demonstrate their technical ability, problem-solving and professionalism under pressure.
Throughout the day, competitors tackled a practical challenge designed to test precision, efficiency and craftsmanship — putting months and years of training on full display. It was a genuinely impressive showing of the standard being set by apprentices across the country, and a reminder of just how much talent is coming up through the industry’s ranks.
At the conclusion of a hard-fought competition, finalists were presented with their awards by PICAC CEO Shayne La Combre and Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Association of Australia CEO Ashleigh Dalmau.
