HSR Initial OHS Training Course

Overview

HSR Initial OHS Training Course Under the OHS Act 2004 (section 67) all elected HSRs and deputy HSRs are entitled to undertake WorkSafe Victoria approved OHS training for HSRs and choose their training provider in consultation with their employer. CEPUTEC is approved to deliver the HSR initial OHS training Course.

The aim of this WorkSafe approved training course is to provide HSRs and Deputy HSRs with the knowledge, skills and confidence to enable them to exercise their powers for the purpose of representing members of their designated work group and to help make their workplace safer.

HSR training is not intended to train HSRs to be health and safety professionals or to fulfil an employer’s obligations in relation to OHS. HSR training is not linked to ASQA/RTO and is not nationally recognised training.

Prerequisites

To have been elected by members of their Designated Work Group (DWG)

Course structure

The training course will supply basic information and skills required for HSRs to successfully exercise their powers under the Victorian Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Act 2004 and Victorian OHS Regulations 2007.

Course duration

35 hours (five days)

Course outcomes

• Understand the legal framework for occupational health & safety
• Describe the roles and powers of the key workplace parties (not HSRs) in the OHS Act 2004
• Understand the representation role of HSRs and their legal powers and entitlements
• Understand the role and representative powers of a HSRs in the identification of hazards and risk controls in the workplace
• Skills to represent members of a DWG and participate in workplace consultation, issue resolution and negotiation.

All material required is provided by the trainer (CEPUTEC)

Assessment arrangements

No formal assessment. Participant must attend 35 hours face to face training.

Training participant is a Master Plumbers, AMCA or NFIA Association member.

Training participant is not a member of PPTEU, Master Plumbers, AMCA or NFIA.
